Writing
These organizations and blogs provide information and support for writers.
American Society of Journalists and Authors This is an organization for professional freelance nonfiction writers. Although its membership requirements are strict (I hope to one day be a member), ASJA offers an annual conference in New York City that non-members may attend as well.
Freelancing (formerly The Golden Pencil) (blog) A forum for writers and other types of freelancers that provides lots of information to educate and motivate.
Pennwriters A networking organization of writers mainly from Pennsylvania but also from out-of-state. Published and aspiring writers of all genres are welcome. This organization is a wonderful source of information and support, and its annual conference is great.
Renegade Writer (blog) Co-founded by successful and inspiring freelancers Linda Formichelli and Diana Burrell, this forum for writers contains a wealth of information about the writing life. Books, courses, and consultations are also offered.
River Poets A laid back and supportive group of poets along Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna River who gather regularly for readings, meetings, and social events.
Writer’s Digest One of the major magazines on writing that covers the technical details as well as the markets and profiles of successful writers. The magazine, website, courses, and collection of Writer’s Digest books provide a vast amount of useful information for writers of all levels and genres. Writer’s Digest is a major reference resource – a good place to start.
