Do you often feel nervous, tense, fidgety, worried, panicky, or afraid? These are some symptoms of anxiety disorders, the most common group of mental illness in America. Anxiety disorders affect about 40 million American adults each year, according to the National Institute of Mental Health
Some kinds of anxiety disorders are panic disorder, specific and social phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.
The good news is that there is help and hope for anxiety sufferers. Common treatments include medication and psychotherapy. Unfortunately, according to the Anxiety Disorders Association of America
, “…only about one-third of those suffering from an anxiety disorder receive treatment.”.
May is Mental Health Month, so there are several lectures, screenings, and other related activities occurring in many places in order to educate the public about a variety of psychological conditions. Now is a good time to get information and seek help for yourself or others.
