Sleep – quality and quantity – is an important aspect of your health. Sleep amounts and patterns vary from person to person. Some people are early birds and others are night owls. Try to work with your body’s natural rhythms as much as possible.
Too little or too much sleep, or difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep can signal a medical problem. If this is the case, you should consult your doctor.
Tips for better sleep:
■ Get comfortable
■ Eliminate distractions
■ Keep your sleep schedule consistent
■ Develop a ritual to prepare your body
■ Take a short nap during the day if necessary
Some things not to do near bedtime:
■ Don’t engage in rigorous exercise
■ Don’t eat a heavy meal
■ Don’t drink caffeine, alcohol, or use other drugs
■ Don’t read or view emotionally-charged material
■ Don’t rely on sleeping pills
